JTA has new passes, transfers, value cards, fareboxes
and trim units.
Passes: The 31-day pass is now valid from the
date of purchases for 31 days forward. The old pass was only valid
for the month in which it was purchased.
New Buses: JTA new “Gillig” buses have a new floor design that allow wheelchair users to enter through the front door using a ramp (unassisted) instead of a lift.
The buses also have a traditional drop box (for fare collections) instead of the electronic fare box. The drop box makes magnetic stripped tickets and transfers obsolete. JTA will realize a savings of $15,000 to $20,000 a year just by switching to the lower priced paper tickets and transfers!
The Jackson Transportation Authority (JTA) is giving out free City bus tickets to Jackson residents whose health would be put at risk during a heat emergency. The tickets are referred to as “Hot Tickets” because they can only be used in a warm weather emergency.
The Program works as follows: Tickets are given out to local area agencies to distribute to people that may not have a cool place to stay when the weather becomes a health issue. People can use the “Hot Ticket” to get to a cooling center by riding the city bus.
